Hi,
I'm interested in studying art. I'm looking for the perfect choice in choosing an art school...I wonder if anyone knows the best art school/s in the world?

It's probably more practical if you tell us where you can actually realistically live, because I doubt you can just pick anywhere in the world and live there?

I live in the Middle-East in Jordan, I hope that if I enclosed the choice in number of universities or schools I may contact them asking about scholarships for international students, and no one knows ;)

In that case, you should then tell us what your area of interest is, and what career path you are planning. Most art schools are known for a particular department, and you'd have to pick and choose based on the department you want to be in.

I appreciate your help :)
I like drawing, painting, and everything related to them, I also enjoy character design and animation, and visual story telling. I'm looking for understanding the theories to make the ultimate benefit of my art, to make my day :P

Traditionally speaking. Cal Arts has always been strong in that area. Recently I have noticed that San Jose State University in Northern California is turning out some really fine students in their related programs as well (I had hired several of them in the last year or so for various projects). San Jose's art department is not that well known but they've always been excellent.

You really should check out these links though--they were made especially for people like you looking for the right animation school:

international student....hmmm....you will have a lot of research ahead of you. if you were in the US I would have suggested www.conceptart.org/school (http://www.conceptart.org/school) but since you are not, I wish you the best.

san jose is a rotten place to live and study if you wish to be around culture. obviously lunatique has not lived in the bay area. If you are going to pay that kind of money you should live in San Fran and go study at academy of art. At least you will be by the rest of the artists. Aint much for culture in san jose..ever.

I actually grew up in the Bay Area. I lived in Foster City, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, and San Francisco from 1984~2001, and 2006~2008.

I have taught at the Academy of Art, and it's a fine school. I mentioned San Jose State because of recent experience with their graduates had been mostly excellent and I felt the school deserved mentioning. But you're right about culture--there is no comparison between a world-famous city and one that only Californians have heard about. I think the only reason anyone would venture into San Jose these days is for Santana Row... :D

I graduated from Art Center College of Design in 2004 from their illustration department. They have a really solid entertainment design/illustration program. I found it really beneficial being able to rub elbows with people from the other majors particularly the film students. That way you can start doing side projects with other students on commercial shoots and music videos.

The identity of the best art school in the world is entirely dependent on what, exactly, you want to study.

How do you guys feel about on-line or distance learning? I'm in the military and I was considering enrolling into The Art Institute Online. I've been thinking about this for almost 2 years now. I almost enrolled last year, but I got into an x-ray tech school. I graduate in Nov, and after I'll be working a 9-5, you can say, which gives me time to pursue education in art. I might be moving to Virginia after I graduate. It's still up in the air. I'm currently in San Diego, where I'm always driving by the Art Institute by my house thinking how I'm here, and I can't even take a class or 2 because I'm in another program. All I know is that I want to get formal training, and that I need to be in my element once again.

I recall from my experience that the students in my art school that I think benefitted the most form the program were older students and that is only because they went into the program with very specific goals and knew what industries they were aiming at when they were finished. Depending on the art school, some of the programs might only be a few years which is really just enough time to develop a solid portfolio in one area. I am basically urging you to really evaluate what interests you the most before you start out. I know that it might not be easy to visit the prospective schools as you are in Jordan, but compared to the money you will eventually shell out for a top tier art/design school, it might be well worth it to at least take a trip to Los Angeles where there is a number of schools in cluding, Otis, Art Center, Gnom, Academy of Art SF, and many other smaller programs. I know that Art Center for instance is very welcoming to prospective students and allows you to talk to couselers and check out the classes.
