Hi there!

I am a graduate of animation mentor and this is my final short film. This is my first 3D fim ever and i tried to learn about lighting and modeling simple props as I animated it so I could get a better understanding of the medium. But first and foremost I am an animator so please excuse the lack of physics for the water :-)

Fun little film :D

A couple of things that stood out to me:

-the water lacking splashes was slightly jarring
-when he steps on the shell, his expression is fairly muted...I would have expected bulging eyes and a real "shock" on his face, but instead it looks more like he's crying (which is less "punchy")

Good job otherwise! Congrats on graduating!

yea nice job!

As far as the water, just draw some 2d splashes. You'll find its actually really easy and that simple one tone blots of blueish ness fit in just fine with 3d.

It seemed that some of the characters teeth moved forward and backwards during their dialogue. I also think more attention needs to be made to the camera, a lot of it just moved about more than necessary and very few of them eased in or out of the movements, which for most camera shots is important. Also I think some of the camera shots were unnecessary, for example panning up a flight of stairs, before cutting to the bottom to watch the heroine sneak up them. I think the truck that crashed looked a little odd, and quite a few of the shots seemed to be comped onto another background that moved to create a parallax kind of effect, but it didn't quite work and just seemed to float around. I liked the vector style rendering. Obviously a lot of hard work, good luck with future episodes! :)

I was looking at so many different pieces i got mixed up. Very sorry about that! Your short film tourist class is incredible, and that its your first 3d film, wow. The characters eyes seem so focused always thinking something, never ambiguous always communicating something. I wish i could animate like that!

doh!

pretty nice animation, i loved the character's reactions when the coconut fell on his head, but i felt that his reaction should be more exaggerated when he saw the sharks. Other than that, the animation rocks.

thanks for sharing

I have to agree about the water. Although it's not the intended focus it is a bit distracting and some of the animation is lost because of it. If I were you I'd either a) find someone to do some water VFX for you and make sure you give them credit at the end or b) grab a tutorial like Digital Tutor's RealFlow/Fluid work and slap on some real basic water. Other then that, the shark comment has already been stated.. but that's some really nice work you did! I really enjoyed it. Great job.
