View Full Version : Object: Stackable Chairs
legadan 05-31-2003, 11:13 PM These are some of the final renders for a furniture design class I have just completed. The objective was for the chairs to be stackable and easily manufacturable. I still feel the need to continue working on it. I welcome any crits from everybody!

I dont get it...are they all supposed to be the same chair? They stack, but each one appears different...or am I just crazy....they look like the backrests are all bent at different angles in order to stack them.
[edit] aah oops I see it now, the backrest would rotate....well, it looks good, IMO, but I dont know how easily stackable it would be if you had to rotate each backrest to get them to stack.

interesting design. would be nice to see a single chair though. the rotating backrest idea has its merits but i agree it makes stacking the chairs more of a hassle...
yeah, it would obviously need a locking mechanism or else it isnt much of a backrest.

Hey guys!! thanks for the comments :) I really appreciate the input...
Ruix, you are right -- my mistake, I forgot to mention the pivot in the back that controls the backrest.
I see what you both mean about it being difficult to stack however the back moves and snaps into many different positions so that the user can adjust it to their own personal comfort, as well as for stacking purposes.
below is a closeup of the 'gears' in the back as well as an unstacked chair for Benork's request
