Still refining the blocking elements...

namnocilis> I'll look into that. I'm thinking its due to the lack of a proper neck to anchor it down to the torso

Finally, some one doing Iron monger! Everyone's been doing Iron Mans; what's the fun in doing a wip that 12 other people are currently doing? Will be keeping up with this one, good luck and nice job so far.

Wow... how did I miss this one. Looking great so far.

Question... are you just going off screen shots of this or did you manage to find some orthos?

Theres quite abit of toy reference and some movie screen captures on flickr currently.
I'm basing mostly on those i can find online.
I'm considering getting 1 of the toys for onhand reference.
I'll see if i can find any cheap ones in shops.
Work at office has been tough, I'll be doing abit more updates over the weekends.

Will be moving in to touch up some detail on the arms and feets over the coming weekend

Did up a base mesh of the suit interior, thinking of doing some detailing in mudbox.
I'm thinking of doing up some action scene where ironmonger will bust open some of ironman's suit with a big blow.

speakerwizard> I get my overall proportion right, start really low-res and refine my mesh gradually. i think its much faster this way, saves me from having to adjust the scale of model each time i do up a new element

Having to detail all the cranks and screws were so painful with mudbox. (just picked it up some time back)
In the end had to settle for old skool poly modelling, i don't think i've managed to capture everything but it should be quite sufficient for now. probably do abit more detailling when i've figured out which part of the suit to bust open for the final...
Time to give the ironmonger some love soon.

Spent the day checking the movie reference, trying to figure out how to get the thigh to connect seamlessly to the pelvis and be able to rotate around the joint at the same time.

Great work! Keep it up!

Still missing the hands which i'll probably be finishing up soon and minor detailing on various parts of the suit. Afterwhich i'll be working on the ironmonger.

Did a rough hand for placement / modified the leg joints / some shader test
Will be working on ironmonger for the next few days to come.

...Shiny... Model looks great. The shader is a bit too shiny.

I really like the legs for some reason. I like all the lines I think.

Anyway, nice work. Looking froward to more.

It was pretty hard getting a good reference for his hand...
considering the amount of screen time he had.
Theres still quite alot of small details to fill in + giving those paper thin armor suit some volume
With the amount of time left, i doubt i'll be able to do up the battle diorama i planned to do earlier...

I can say this is one of the toughest hcm i've ever tried out. I've constantly been under quite alot of stress seeing how well the other artist in this challenge are doing. During this challenge, i've picked up more tricks on how to fake details. Sad to say due to the lack of time, the end result is not exactly what i envisioned it to be.
I'll be back working on the model + texturing once i can manage to find time off from my work.

Great job! I didn't find your thread until the posting of your final images. I like the beauty render (the style of the movie concept art.)

Looking forward to the turntable.

Thanks Sirhcnait
Is there a concept art book out already? I'll pop by the bookstore over the weekend, I'm quite a fan of adi granov's work

Kris - Spent quite abit of time tweaking the poses trying to avoid pincing + mesh deformation and at the same time having to look like a comic pose.
I'm still quite weak at rigging so the poses have to compromise with my rig.

Did another comp of a render, showing a better picture of the details
