:surprised Ouchie, that's about as good as it gets. Absolutely superb, textures, modeling.

I couldn't find one error, until...

The stickers! They're floating! Third image: HANDYCAM Precision LCD Monitor. Or does my eye deceive me?

These images are definately frightening... scary... 5 stars from my side.

Could you post up some info on the how-to? Poly-count? Wireframes? Program used? Renderer used, render times? Time it took to create it?

Hi Onno,I am sorry for the text on the DV,they are floating because I model the text, not texture map, when A.Z rendered these text,it appeared strange because of low anti-alias setting I think
This DV is modeled in Rhino3d,used NURBS modeling, and export to Max5 to render, used Vray,a render plugin
It takes me A month to model, and a few days for my friend A.Z to render

very cool, almost photorealistic, I'm not sure I can see much wrong with it all, apart from the labels that have already been mentioned

the only thing I don't like is the colour, pinky beige, yuck :D hehe
maybe a light silver instead?

The black plastic lacks the bumps and texture that you would notice that close. It's too perfect looking. Other then that nice model. Very realistic.:)

THe only thing I see besides the sticker prob mentioned above is that you can see the HDR probe reflection in the lens.
It looks like one of the outdoors HDRs (or maybe building probe.hdr?)and this is in a studio.

Also the flyout lens should have a little gloss or spec on that lens....but I dont have one so I'm not sure but it seems too clear to be real when at a angle. There should be a slight light reflection from those.
The shadows seem a tad bit soft.

Having said that, these are freakn kicka** models and renders!!!

Keep up the brilliant work!!!!!

Hey luckeystart, great images!! I have a question for you, how did you get your model into max? Did you use iges or did you use the 3dm import plugin??
I'm working on a high detail rhino model myself as well and I need to put it into max, do you have some tips for me, as I keep having problems with that..
Again, superb modelling/rendering! http://www.cgtalk.com/images/cgtalk/5stars.gif ;)

I thought that the frontpage thing was an add for a new camera or something... This is amazing!

Ruix
05-31-2003, 05:03 PM
yeah, im also interested in how you moved those to max. I absolutely hate exporting to 3ds b/c It makes it almost impossible to alter anything in MAX b/c of the tesselation. I heard something about a plugin that will export Nurbs curves to MAX from Rhino, did you use that? If so(or if you know about it or if it even exists) what's it called?

WOW! A Rhino model on the Front Page! Never thought I'd see the day. *sniff-sniff* You've made me so proud. lol. Excellent work, great model, great rendering and YES, you even modeled the text. You have to just love that. Keep up the great work and again, congrats on the front page nod. You realize we'll expect thsi level of quality from you from now on, right? ;)

The Attention to detail is awesome! ;)

Did you model those little holes for the camera speakers/microphone too? Can we see a close-up wire of those areas?

BoydLake
05-31-2003, 05:53 PM
Nice model....and tell your friend he did a nice job with the lighting and rendering. The images could be much smaller (and fewer). The LCD panel doesn't look like and lcd though....just images mapped to the surface. That and the overall perfectness of all the textures are the only things that stand out. Props to you and your buddy! :D

WOW, only one thing really bothers me, the image on the LCD looks too good. Usually the screens don't have that amount of sharpness, especially from off centr angles.

The lack bump tiny bumbs on the black surfaces also would help, but not as bother some considering teh rest of teh model.

amazing

Looks very good. :)
It's been mentioned before but here it goes again..
A little bit of a bump on the black plastic pieces, some more attention to the buttons on the inside, (rew, play,ff,rec) and definitely more work on the viewfinder screen. It looks more like a picture has been pasted on there rather than a display.

keep it up :D

If I were you, I'de use a de-interlaced filer on the image on the camera. Make the picture look more real. Other than that, its perfect...!

really awsome work realism in cg doesnt get much better than this
we really have to nitpick cause this is sooo dam good we want it to be unbelivalby perfect

and to get the lcd to look right

i would make the lcd have a bit of a back light

and use a gradient based on the incidence angle (i think thats the right one) so that when the camera moves you cant see the lcd as well

and the battery and they eye peice should have a super slight bump to them

turely the work of a master

excelent job i need to quit slackin so i can catch up

05-31-2003, 08:20 PM
Great work with this! As mentioned the only real flaws are the LCD and the plastic textures lacking a very fine bump map.

Cool, I have the same camera. :) Everything is the same except for the LUCK text in the front and the buttons on the Play/Stop/Pause section have 2 more buttons than that one.

Good job. I always like to see this kind of model.

Greate job. My dad was behind my back when I opened this. It took me about 10 minutest of arguments, which I have not won BTW (just gave up) to tell him this is not a photo.. LOL. If it looks like a photo, then it must be photo.. Those elders are just so streighforeward.

And about the export model question that Renzsu has mentioned,I used a Max plugins call RhinoImport,it is a free plugin that translate mesh object to max, before you export model to Max,you must turn your NURBS object into mesh object, and then save the mesh as .3dm file.

Fantastic! I have some questions:

How did you model this? Did you measure or scan an actual model? Work from a blueprint?

Anything you can say about speeding up your workflow when modeling a real object like that?

Kudos to you and to Rhino!

To Cableguy's question,I don't have the true DV,I only have some high resolution pics of the DV,I take them as the background bitmap in Rhino3D.
To speed up my work flow,I open tow Rhino3D program, and I frequently copy paste parts between the tow Rhino3D.
