Hi all,

I have been working on a character for some days now, conceptually , and have started to put him into some scenes. This, for the time being is going to be a set of stills for a childrens book that I am in the process of writing with this mini dude as a the main focal point.

Here are some less worked out samples that show the fellow a bit more clearly...

Eclectic set of tools used here... Mainly Maya to model the character, some Form•Z solid and surface modeling on the transistor parts (were already done before I started to think about the character...) and brought together in Cinema 4D Studio 8.1 for texturing and rendering.

Some post processing was done adding (cinema rendered) sparks to the final images and since I rendered the image out as a layered channel file I could tweak some more of the atmospherics like radiosity and fog back in the main plates.

Let me know what you think!

Albert

dont want to nit-pick, but all i see are resistors and maybe a capacitor as the characters head ;) - no semiconductors here, uhm?

however, nice work with great light effect - it's c4d :)

are you going to animate "him" ? dont hezitate to show us more :applause:

Guten Tag Zeromancer,

What's a semi-conductor :)

As for animation. I first want this character to live inside a childrens book and as such I have to focus on that for a while. This will effectively have me stay a way from all the set up dangers that are going to face me in animation. However as soon as the story is finished and done I will pick that up as my next task!

Guten Tag, Albert ;)

Semiconductor (item that conducts electric energy at a controlled level) = Halbleiter (don't know whats the word in dutch...)
Transistors, ICs, MOSFETs and Diodes, all the other nice little things that rule thw world - esp. our world with PCs and microprocessors :)

looking forward for the animation! good luck !

oooooh pretty colours

i think he has alot of character, which is good for a childrens book.
why do we only see the back of him?

Hi Zeromancer,

Well no concious thing on my part. But wanting to put him into this action scene he just ended up that way. I'll post some images of his front tomorrow. Not really much there but maybe that is where he can improve :)

This thing is just amazing!! :bounce: I'd say tweak the metal wire material though. It's the only thing that is too shiny or polished. Maybe a a couple of burned areas [from the saduring(spelling)] and some softer reflections?

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your kind words. About the shiny wires... that is his only point of pride! He's a bit vain in character and since this is the only thing he can really do to enhance his looks that what he does on rainy days. Polishing his wires to hopefully one day get the attention of the people that live in the house where he hangs around... So the need to be as polished as can be :)

OOOOH! I wasn't thinking all over for the grunge, but more at the joints. I was just thinking back to when I would do that saudering for my rc cars, and other wires. But there would be shiny blobs [soft blobs if done in correctly], but I do recall some of the charring or blackening. But enough about that, I understand, and the pic is still hella kew!!
