Hello all,

I’ve got some invitations to give away to the closed beta of Presto3D.com. The site is a marketplace and gallery for 3D models where you can actually see a 3D preview of the models in the browser. You can register here: www.presto3D.com (http://www.presto3D.com) with this referral code: presto0845. It’s valid for the first 50 users.

We’ve spent a lot of time to make it clean and simple place to show off and sell 3D artwork, and we’re just about ready to launch it to the public. I am looking for some artists to join our closed beta and upload their 3D artwork to our site before we launch so that we have a great site right from the beginning. Of course, there are certain *perks* to be had by being one of our first users (besides our undying gratitude ;)).

You can also demo the site without registering by going to www.presto3d.com (http://www.presto3d.com) and clicking on the “Demo” link.

Haha no, that was just a demo. Anyways, it's fixed now to a more realistic price. Did you guys try the 3D preview?

thank god lol

yes, i tried the 3d demo and works great

i have a question about uploading, i suppose i can upload all kinds of application specific files?(maya 3ds etc.)
they just wont be viewable, i suggest adding an specific upload field for the previews so we can put a simplified version of the model like in obj, jpeg lowress textures and another for the actual files to be downloaded

Actually Octo, we accept the Maya and Max files and all their associated textures in full quality, and then we convert and optimize them on our side, and they are viewable. When you upload a model, the preview is created automatically (takes a few minutes), and you receive an e-mail to confirm that it looks correct when it is ready. That's one of the most interesting features of our site, in my opinion. Right now, any .max, .3ds, .mb, .ma, and .dae files uploaded will generate a 3D previews. .obj and .fbx are supported as well, but we have a bit more testing to do on these before we enable them.

amazing!

I use plugins for hair rendering and facial rigging, and i would like to upload the complete file, of course specifying to the buyer that in order to animate\render they need the specific plugins
would that be a problem for your converter?
also i asume things like mentalray materials with fractal textures(or 3d projections) are not supported

how will this differ than turbo squid? or is this just an alternative?

For the moment, the major differentiating factor is that we can allow much more user interactivity with the 3D assets on our site. For the moment, this consists of viewing, zooming, and rotating a 3D preview, but more features are planned that will make the buyer's user experience vastly better on Presto3D than any other 3D marketplace site that currently exists.

You're correct that mentalray materials are not supported. Right now, standard 3ds Max and Maya materials (e.g. Phong, Blinn, Lambert) are supported. For more complex effects, COLLADA FX and CgFX shaders are also supported.

I think you can freely upload the models that depend on hair rendering and facial rigging, but you shouldn't upload the plug-ins themselves. Our conversion pipeline likely won't be able to produce nice previews for these files though. Give it a try and see what happens! We've done a significant amount of testing on our side, but it's impossible to cover every possibility, which is part of the reason we're starting out in closed beta rather than opening up immediately.

In any case, buyers will be able to download the original model you upload, NOT just the converted one, and you can switch off the 3D preview for a model if you feel that in that specific case, the quality displayed doesn't accurately reflect that of your model.

Thanks for reporting this! Currently, you have to have administrator access on your computer when you install the plug-in. If you are a user and not an admin, it won't work; this is a known issue and a fix is in the works as we speak.

If this wasn't the issue, please send me a PM and I'll look into it further.

Hi Mim,

Thanks for the feedback. Not having a loading bar has been driving me nuts as well and it should be there by the end of the day today. By the way, any models uploaded during the closed beta will receive 70% royalty permanently, and I am always looking for more ways to thank the initial users who help us get the site off the ground.

hello,
nice site.

the buying section of your faq seems a bit confused:

What kind of payment do you accept?

Yes. You will earn the same 50% commission at any price you set.

Can I return a model?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

I need a model in a different file format than what it is currently in. What do I do?

Yes, within 48 hours of when you purchased the model. For the moment, we do not have an automated system for this, so you will have to contact the returns department at returns@presto3d.com. Please provide your account name and the name of the model and artist. Please allow 7 days for the refund to be processed

also i have a question about payment. the faq says there are no tax forms to fill in. this goes for overseas sellers too?

Nice catch on the FAQ, cadmonkey. Something got lost in translation there; it will be fixed.

Regarding the tax forms, there are no tax forms to fill out for anyone, even if you are overseas.

I've just encountered a major error. When I clcik to view the harrier model having installed the plugin and restarted FF 3.0.1 the model is being transferred from www.presto3d.com but after a few seconds FF will just close itself down completely!

I'm on XP64, 4gb ram, ATI XTX1900X, don't know if that will help with your investigation...

Ouch. I'll definitely take a look at it. There has been a gap in our testing where XP64 is concerned. Thanks giving me the detailed specs.

Edit: Do you know the video driver version that you are using?
