300+ hours of modeling, lighting, rendering, and compositing.

Most of the city was broken into individual layers for compositing.
The cars were on a seperate layer, which helped give a much better result in the final sequence.

Please keep in mind, this is only my 2nd time ever compositing anything, most of the time I just render the entire scene.

Everything was modeled and rendered within in Maya's Standard Renderer. This was more of an excercise to help me prepare for future VFX projects that may have these same elements.
As you can probably tell......this scene was inspired by scenes from "Miniority Report".

As soon as I get the chance, I'll upload the clip and post the link here.

Please feel free to post any questions or comments.
All feedback is welcome, good or bad.

Thanks fresh_balla and fakie.

Fakie.....you wouldnt believe how much I listened to t.A.T.u
while I did this. I've played "30 minutes" so much while making
this scene....everyone in my family knows all the words.
LMAO!
;)

Thanks for the comments guys.
I sincerely appreciate it.

Great work. I really like the over-all feel of it... whatever that means... ROCK ON!

This kind of stuff is my favorite kind of 3D work. The city scapes and sci-fi architectural stuff. Wow. Do you have other work like that?

Wow, good work i really like the buildings etc.

Just a small thing, some of the cars dont really look like they are hovering, most are great just one or two spoil it.

Hey everyone....thanks for the comments :)
Wonderful to see this much feedback,
I'll definatly post my work on here from now on.

hkbasravi: I do alot of environment work, but I must say, this is
my first time ever attempting a scene like this.
I'm currently doing VFX for a new Matrix parody film.
It's a low-budget film being shot in L.A. So I'm having
to do alot of environment work on it. Most of my
inspiration comes from my friend Eric Hanson.
You've probably seen his work in suck films as "The
Fifth Element"; "Hollow Man", "Mission to Mars" and
"Bicentennial Man". I'm currently working on my demo
reel, so I can start work with him at Digital Domain.

Rei Ayanami: The cars vary in the height from the street.
Some may be only .5 to 1 feet off, and some are
about 3-4 feet off of the street. I didnt really want
them all at the same height.

Once again.....thanks to everyone for your comments.

gah...cities are sooo hard for me, because I always think I have to have more complex models(im much more of a modeler than a texture/material guy). I like the way this looks with such simple models, its very nice.
