I really enjoy the composition and values on this. It's wonderfully magical. I'm guessing that the snail on the monkey's back wanted to live in the fast lane :)

Looks very much like a children't book illo. I think that this is very magical piece. The contrasting trees look fantastic.

KPetrasko - Thank you! And yes, I assume it's very beneficial for the snail to have made friends with that monkey.

ianruff - Thanks! I've always liked art that implied a story, so I'm happy to hear it looks like a book illustration. Making the background trees a light color seemed like the only way to convey a sunny atmosphere, I'm glad you like them.

monks - Thank you very much!

lynch - I understand what you mean about the midground trunks. The abruptness of the darkness was to not only bring them to the foreground, but to make them appear under the same patch of shade as the big trees. I actually never did figure out if the trees in the background were reflecting a heck of a lot of light, or if they were just naturally a lighter color, so it threw me off a little too. Thank you for your comment!

you could keep that change in light there and fix it in background the end easily

the usual thing to do is keep the highlights and replace shadow colour with the background colouras you go furthe back, in your case that would be the peach...it really helps to create that foggy distant effect without even having to spray over it...i would do an example now for yah but im on someone elses computer.

Wow, you really have the atmospherics down to a science. Its rare I come across art that evokes such a clear sense of emotion and drama from the first glance and largly based on simple colors. The use of negative and postive space is remarkably well balanced and the lack of any tangental growth and effective use of forground and background elements are downright amazing. This comment encompasses all your pieces, as each is a true-to-form artistic success.
Nicely done....very nicely done.

Thank you, Seedly! You call it a comment but, I call it poetry... and music to my ear at that! :D

Hello my dear friend.
This piece is very good. I really like the composition and the light coloring and mood in background. I really feel the lights.
But in my view - I think that - maybe the lighter colors - about 10 / 15 % - for the foreground make it more blievable for compositing with back. It's just an option and maybe can help. But after all this illustration is very good.

Good luck my friend:
