Is there an importer for XFrog or a tutorial you know of that works for XSI?

Thanks.

The ancient "XFR Import Plugin" from 2005 can still be downloaded at http://www.xfrogdownloads.com/greenwebNew/news/newStart.htm
(scroll quite a bit down to get to the link...)

If this plugin still works, is another matter, i.e. I really don't know!

Have you checked out T-Gen? I played with the demo, worked great!

or Abaro... outputs .OBJs (with UVs).

Terragen might fit the bill. Thanks.

From what I've heard, no, the XFrog importer doesn't work with newer versions of XSI, or at least, not well.

The Xfrog importer only works with 5.11, but not perfect anyway (never did). Just use OBJ instead.

Yesterday I tried importing a tree OBJ generated in Xfrog 3.5 with about 650.000 triangles. It froze my Foundation 5.0 license and I had to dump the XSI thread in Task Manager.

I just upgraded to Essentials 6.5 (still waiting for the license key  ) and hope it's a bit more rugged with heavy meshes. Can anyone confirm?

T-Gen certainly looks interesting... first time I've heard of it. I will have to check it out.
Has anybody used it?
Fluckrat: Would love to hear your findings.

Shameful thing about Xfrog is that it's developers aren't really interested in developing it much further. As good as it is, there is very much that can/should be improved.

Here is an excerpt and link to a thread about Xfrog to XSI:

"So, I used 3D Object Converter 4, exported 3DS file of desired Xfrog plant and brought it into 3D Object Converter, and exported it as OBJ, kept the textures that came with the plant in the same directory as OBJ, and imported it all from within XSI, and this time, XSI could import the plant with ease and also the texture was associated with it. I just had to replugin the leaves to the transparency channels and turn on "use alpha" and "invert" and everything worked"

If you try this, please post here about how it worked.

Thanks for the link - it works well!

You still have the ray depth issue though, so better to use arch shader...

I think this thread is similar to what you are talking about:

Do you have any details about using arch shader and the new Xfrog Importer?
