Hey paul, i was just wondering...and i thought i would post publically seeing as how...at least i think other people would agree...

Is it possible to maybe have a news page on your site? you know...to keep us up to date...i know your busy...but if you read in a recent thread i have wondered what it is that citygen does...i mean, maybe you could give us an idea whats in the works...whats currently being worked on, what the toolset will consist of? just some ideas...oh and the trial that youve done for your plugins...i think that should raise the bar, if only other people and companies thought that way...like my self ive been looking at structure...but im not gonna drop 112 on something i MIGHT like...anyways, just thinking out loud.

As far as I know paul's always got a few projects going, and often changess priority of what he's working on, I mean sniper pro was an expansion on a small little toy he had about a year ago.

A news page wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it'd make sense for inprgoress plugins, I mean no use saying what all city gen is aimed to do, because as we've seen from some developers that do infact do that, they can't always deliver. I'll always prefer surprise releases over vapourware that never gets released.

You'd have better luck posting on Postforum--he doesnt seem to come here often, but he posts there pretty regularly.

And I think he's probably busy because he's busy makin plugins. sniper Pro and Dynamic spline Projector both came out in one month--a lot of people bought Sniper pro it seems, so I'm sure he's dealing with the aftermath of that. City gen's been advertised on his site for a few months now, since his new site went on line.

i'm interested in city gen.
was also curious whether he had any plans for futuristic city buildings generation...i think what Kotayus was getting at did he have any plans to use a method like structures to build his buildings?

ill be moving citygen up a notch.
The problem with this this one is that its gotten fat and ugly with to many controls. So ill be splitting the plugin into 3 parts.

part 1 will be the road generator
part 2 is the buildings generator
part 3 is the features generator

you road gen to the buildings gen
then you apply a features gen to the roads gen and a features gen to the building gen.

This will not only be easier for me to code , but also make the plugin more logical to use and speed things up a lot .It will no longer have to rebuild the roads when you change some small feature or building paramter.

im getting a lot of requests for this plugin righ now , so ill be moving it up front.

as for the news page , it a good idea , but news pages have to be updated all the time which is a pain in the arse :) That doesnt mean I wont do it though :)

thanks for all your support , it makes a difference.

cheers

Since you're here Paul, then heres a question.

Could the "features module" be used in a similar way to the Sructure plugin, ie, select any polygon object (not just a building generated from the building module) and cover the surface with pipes, tiles, and other details?
Heres a screenshot from the Structure website:

Heres a greeblies link that shows another usage I am looking for (most notably, the 3rd image down of the tower):

And while you're taking requests :)

A while back you mentioned a nut/bolt generator. That would be good!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think a some people here are confusing the functionality of citygen to structure

http://www.mysunrise.ch/users/jane_meyer/KeemanPlugs.htm

(click on products, then Structure)

Its a cool plugin and has been a round a while, but hasnt gotten a lot of "coverage" lately.

I'd be interested in seeing a plugin like this that had more features:, bevelled "nurnies" so the cubes and extrusions that are generated on your object can vary in corner radius, as well as being able to add little domes and pipes.

The 3-part city gen plugin, if done right (as itseems to have been --looking at the flythrough!) is bound to get a lot of attention--especially for higher end users in the archetecure and broadcast fields. Coupled with Ozone, Citygen should be a VERY nice weapon in ones plugin arsenal. I am looking forward to seeing more info on this.

Oh, and Sniper Pro immedialtely has helped speed up my workflow--great plugin! I'm buying dynapic spline projector right now...

>yeah - so busy he doesnīt answer e-mails or PMīs. (Want to >buy a plug-in directly, as advertised on his site).

sorry if i dont asnwer an email , you should see my email lists !!!!!
I do try to get to everyone of them , sometimes a day or 2 later.

I dont have an automated system to take care of direct orders , so i have to go through all the incomings 1 by 1.

the only things I do Ignore are are request emails saying things like "If you add this feature ill buy this plugin" ,also requests for preorders of citygen are getting ignored now :)

If I dont have an answer , I drop the mail in my "hmm" box
and it may get a reply several days/years later :)

it can happen that I read a mail and it gets lost amongst all the others and never gets a reply.

so if you dont get a reply first time , just try again.

all things come to he who waits.

cheers

Paul Everett

(this was in response to J3)

FormZ, if you've ever used it, has a Nuts and Bolts generator--that comes in handy for Engineers who need to create specific screws etc on a regular basis. If you've ever had to model a screw for a job, it can be tedious to get it perfect. Some people have gotten them right, but I have had problems with them myself.

The citygen module will be a lifesaver for those of us needing to produce a rich city environment flythrough even when hit with an impossible deadline. I've had to buy expensive city scape models from turbosquid that I could only use for 1 job since it was so spcific. having the ability to create custom cityscapes in a fraction of the time is huge.

I don't usually buy plugins however this is one I would probibly buy. I also have had projects where a custom city was in real demand.

This could end up being invaluable. One question though how is it going to be textured? Are the users gonna do all this themselves or are you using procedurals or what?

anyway this looks promising.

Kotayus

i think BOTH would be cool...allow us to apply our own materials, and have some preset procedurals, now THAT would rock all night.
