hello i know i dont post here very often, but anyways...
finally it's done. mindfields, my 5 mins short movie is finished and uploaded!

you can download the movie here. i really tried to keep the quality nice so the file is fairly large. you need at least DivX 5.0.3 to watch it.

http://www.artificial3d.com/mindfields/

as the site says, mindfields shows what happens in your head, how your inner ecological system is being destroyed and opens the way for evil and madness. all you see in the movie has to be seen in a metaphorical way.

The movie is, by the way, made with blender [/me ducks]

about the look & feel of the movie: i was trying to make it look real, in certain aspects but also unrealistic. for mindfields i really tried to push blender to the maximum or particle rendering, lighting and modeling detail.

if you are not sure about downloading, have a look at these screenshots from the movie:

i only have to add at the end that it was both, funny and painful to keep working on such a complicated piece of artwork. the 2 months of production and finally the final 2 week rush into the finishing line... long nights and days of blending... many computer crashes and backups... long, overnight rendering... i have learnt so much during production. finally seeing that now mindfields is being delivered out of my mind and into yours makes me feel like returning home after a long journey.

the music is taken from the game myst3exile [and another game i cant quite remember :hmm: ]

i hope you enjoy the short!

ps: i'm going on holidays for 2 weeks, so i cant answer your questions till i return.

Great short

But Blender? Even more impressive.

One note: Not giving UbiSoft/Presto Studios credit for the Myst III music clips could get you into trouble.

Hi,

I am hosting the animations for andy,
and I had to change the servers, because
of bandwidth issues...

The new urls are:
www.joegames.com/elementi-motus/andy/mindfields_high.avi
www.joegames.com/elementi-motus/andy/mindfields_low.avi

Sorry for the problems...

Best Regards,
Derek Mounce

..but downloading it is difficult to say the least. :-)

The original host appears to have exceeded some bandwidth limitations, and even from the mirror I'm only getting about 3K/sec. ETA: 1 hr, 42 minutes. If I'm still here when it's done, I'll come back and post.

But Blender? Even more impressive.

hehe :)
that lit'l prog has got far more stuff in it's guts than most can even imagine :)

But did I mention that the film is really good :)

awesome particle work (that's all for the silly remarks that I feel i must do instead of just being plain silent spectator :)

I'll watching it again cause I didn't unsertand all the metaphoras but I'll get it :)

BTW: I downloaded it on a 56k... so common' ! ;-)

Ciao

The person here is definitely CG-y. No eyelashes, the eyes have no depth, etc, but the animation makes up for it nicely. I find the little beats that impart life into the model to be distracting--as though the face was in great distress, but there was no expression on it.

The storyline is superb, and the flythroughs were fun. You go through them slowly, easily. You don't linger too long on any one object.

The creature with its bleached white bones is interesting: it's neck was twisted completely around! I think it would've helped (presuming you did that on purpose) to show some breakage in there. :)

The smoke trails were great, as were the explosions, the music, the rising tempo, and the final release.

Overall, very enjoyable, and thanks for sharing it. I'm glad I took the time to download it. :)

hey, just returned from holidays. thanks for the comments [yay, finally more than 1 reply on CGtalk ;) ]

sudog:
agree, the char looks too much CG-ish, next time i'll put more work into it. originally there was only the eye visible, rendering the whole face was a last- minute decision.
the skelleton, oh well... i dunno why i put it in there, it just seemed to fit, but it's nothing important story wise.

StevenR:
yup, thought of that. but since that's only a small non-commercial CG- practise movie production i didnt worry too much. for all further versions and re-renders i'll mention it in the credits.

you may want to check out the MAKING OF (http://www.artificial3d.com/mindfields/makingof/makingof.htm) i wrote. i hope it really shows what blender can do.

see ya
