View Full Version : create polygon from 'pre-made' points

is it possible to 'skin' a spline back into a polygon object?

For example a cube with 10 segments XYZ,where polys and or edges have been deleted but points still remain

I have seen a plugin for importing pointcloud data from tracking software that could create a poly from the data,made by raptor over at C4Dcafe http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=28542 (http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=28542)

i know nothing about camera tracking,but is there a way the same could work for points?

This 'seems' to kinda do something similar to what i want..

If you simply want to join several points, as long as they're in the same object, just use the bridge tool in point mode and build up polygons. If they're in different objects, you'd probably need to connect the objects first.

Not sure if you were actually using a tracker or not, but many tracking apps now have this feature. SynthEyes does. Also most of the 3D digitising (scanners) tools offer free apps which will create a triangulated mesh from a point cloud, but that's really for situations where you have thousands of points.

cheers Kokosing...could bridge it but would take a long time...was trying to find an 'auto' method

I'm not using a tracker,sorry to confuse..its just that the plugin seemed to do something similar to what i wanted..

I guess i'm looking for something that probably doesn't exist...a plugin that can build a mesh from points/splines

that looks like an interesting plugin,I'm on a intel mac though so can't use it yet..

Why not Extrude, Make Editable and Delete the polygons you do not need?

extruding it doesn't work,because the spline is a grid(or net) of points

Hi do-it,

heres a C4d file with the'point grid' as a spline for a basic example,if it can made to work with this,then it should work for what i have in mind.

It was a cube 10 segmentsXYZ,made editable,then edge to spline command
