The only thing that struck me was the duck seems to be smiling happily. I may be mistaken, but that's what it looks like to me.

I would have expected a slightly more sad expression.

That aside, and since I have also followed your WIPs, this is truly an impressive piece of art.

Very nice work David, I really like the idea behind it. Perhaps just some subtle image softening to improve the match in the composite. great detail in the window frame especially with the greasy fingerprints.

Very nice job m8

Hello there David!

This is one superb work of art. The image has a very subtle and gentle feel to it! I really enjoy the mood it sets. You're truely mastering Realsoft3D more and more. And if that wasn't enough, your whole description of the WIPs and overall progress and discovered techniques along the way adds so much more value your efforts.

Two thumbs up! Keep up the fantastic work!

Best regards...

MacSlow

There's a difference between extreme realism and art. This is art.

I'm reminded of excellent painters who, with about three or four brushstrokes, can evoke feelings, can build seemingly detailed landscapes, or paint a totally evocative face complete with obvious and touching emotion.

This is like that: the combination of birds and duck--especially the smile on the duck--are far more powerful than any of those hyper-realistic experiments everyone loves to go on about.

This image evokes tremendous feeling. There are many superb artists here with great talent for drawing complicated figures, in both 2D and 3D., but all to often their talent is bland, humourless, and dry. A detailed monster is an interesting thing to look at, but quickly becomes boring, almost tiring. But an image that evokes emotion? People will look at it again and again. Their eyes will be drawn to it; their minds will remember it. Those whose souls are touched will keep this image close, perhaps subconsciously, for a long time to come..!

Don't make the duck sad: It's far more powerful an effect, far more tragic, if the duck still has some hope of soaring, or its face is emotionless.

Really great artwork! :arteest:
The blur at the front side of the duck seems to be a bit too strong imho .

It express something (a feeling)... and got a people emotional response... that’s what art is about, isn’t it?
Great (and very rare here) work, man! . Keep it up!

Thanks everyone for the comments! I'd been working on this pretty solidly for the past few days so was starting to lose objectivity. Thankfully it seems I managed to pull off the emotive feeling I was after. You all seem to suffer with the duck same as me !

There was kind of an animation planned. I intended that from the beginning, and used RealSoft3D to add soft focus and grain at rendering time so when the animation gets rendering, it'll come out complete with no 2D processing required. I think I'm pretty unique in trying to produce all compositing and effects in the renderer without resorting to external apps!

However, my 800MHz PIII isn't up to the challenge ! I had to find loads of time-saving work arounds to create the image I've got. Much as I'd like to, maybe not 'till a long time down the road...
