Hey guys

We're working on an interface where one feature is to simulate a column of fire going across the screen. I figured this would be most easily done in AE. What would you suggest as a nice looking fire column simulator for AE?

Thanks guys!

I would suggest the AE forum, but thats just my wild and wacky ideas.

before this thread get closed - I think you should look at particular in AE.

You can map sprites with multiple fire sequences and use that to have them fly wherever you like.

...yeah, none of us use AE with our work. Silly me.

Thanks, I'll give that a go!

Geez--this thread got a bum wrap. Theres plenty of c4d options for this kind of thing.

I do my fire as geometry with animated displacement and falloff/fresnel shaders. Usually works great.

Otherwise--get thee to trapcode/redgiant and grab a copy of Particular (or FORM) for AE as stated earlier. You will use the crap out of it.

I've never been really happy with AE generated flame. It all looks so plug-inny. That being said, Dean Velez has some of the best 2D fire I've seen. He's using novel approaches like Mr Blobby and Vector Blur. http://motiongraphicslab.com/

The best fire I've seen is using Maya's Fluid Effects... sure would be cool if C4D has fluids!

If you need a practical flame--like a match, candle or stove, (or even more dynamic out of control fire) displace deformers and the right shaders can help.

Chris Smith has his CStools which includes a setup called "flow" (I think inspired by the TC FORM plugin) in there as well.

Other than that --of course there is DPIT and pyrocluster for 3d fire.
