Modeled in Lightwave 7.5 and looking for a little texturing help.

Is there anyone who knows a good way of making the skin look more translucent so as it is not so plasticy? also what would be a good way to make some kind of meniscus to make the ball sit in the socket better? The ball is a placeholder at the moment and waiting for one at home to be put in that was a result of that long thread on how to make eyes.

This looks really good! A few questions....first off how have you done the eyelashes and eyebrows? Are they polygons or have you used saslite or sasquatch?

The only way I know to make the skin less plasticky is by using a sub-surface scattering plug-in. You might find one at Flay.com or you could use G2 from Worley but that is expensive.

The sclera of the eye looks too white and not moist enough at the moment - needs a few veins across it just to break up the surface and needs to be a bit more reflective.

Normally, you wouldn't be able to see a lot of the sclera directly beneath the iris either, but as it is, it does seem to be working in your model.

Can't comment on the meniscus because I don't know what one of those is!

This is a great looking eye! Great job!

The whole lot is polygonal but mixed with bump maps for for the eyebrows. the lashes lost loads of thickness when subpatched, so they need some more or thickening up somehow. I tryed saslite but had problems with matching the colouring (bahh humbug).

I have never quite understood how subsurface scattering would help for a direct on shot like this, would it be possible to get it to affect only a very shallow amount less than the bump mapping? but you arte dead right, i am not sure how to do it with no plugins?

The scalera will be replaced with one i did earlier, i probably should have left it black for this render or something to show its not final. ill watch the iris, the ball can rotate easily so it shouldnt take a jiff to fix.

Sorry i meant conjunctiva, the membrane over the eye that makes it look wet. not meniscus, but my wife was trying to get me out of work quickly so had to type faster than i could think :hmm: . Anyway i am guessing it is going to be difficult to fake the bits between the lid and the eye ?

Many thanks for the comments too :)

Go to this site http://www.cg-art.i12.com/, it is a presentation of a great CG artist. I learn a lot from his pictures. This is one of them:

what is that last map? and what does it do? something to do with translucence? or is it a lighting map?

Hmnn been messing around with the sugestions, and some sub surface scattering, not entirly sure that i havnt made it worse. stuck an eye in, but i think it is a bit of a let down, lacks sharpness? and better reflections? All sugestions as to what else needs fixing are very welcome.

Have to do some real work now, ho hum

JUst going to put some water under the eye and possibly some more eyelashes, then i think it is finished, unless anyone has any improvements they can sugest?
