View Full Version : Two sided texture weirdness
Navstar 08-04-2008, 04:30 PM I'm trying to do a two-sided card. I'm using the "front" and "back" side selector in the texture tag. However, they are both sides are showing the same texture. And even weirder, while both sides are showing the "back" in the viewport, they show up as "front" when I go to render.
What should be the front of the card

What should be the back

Hard to tell without the scene.
The editor view does not support all the options the renderer does so a differenc eis not surpriding.

Works fine here.
Srek is correct. Viewport and render will differ.

i thaught that the front and back has relation with how normals are.

So if I use UVW mapping, is 'front' and 'back' ignored? Still trying to figure out what's going on here.

hi,
i think that either you'll use two textures with the appropriate texture tag options (front and back), or a single texture with the normal shader as a mask of a fusion shader.

george
edit: what happens if you activate "enhanced open gl"?
edit2: "enhanced open gl" does the trick as long as you don't have any of the texture tags selected (in the case of 2stacked textures).

Front and back are referring to the NORMALS of polygons, not to the front and back of objects themselves. Probably confusing but its normal

Ah -- the *normals*! Well this is a very thin cube, so the "back" normals are actually inside the cube, right?
Correct, the cube does have six outer faces and six inner faces. The front/back option works depending on the normal of the polygon, anything else simply can't work since there is no way to define one part of a cube as front and another as back.

oh yes you are always right base,
i got confused cause i did my tests on a plane object, which i think normals & back & front of the object is practically the same.
