"... then tonight, Sir Etch-A-Sketch called me up and told me:
'But imagine re-creating "Pinocchio" from scratch, ala Van Sant's PSYCHO (shot for shot remake) but in CGI, "for a new generation to enjoy". Apparently a new generation that isn't sophisticated enough to enjoy the original for the masterpiece of artwork that it is…'

Hey, any movies that are good and made in CG is all..... GOOD! :)
I have no doubt they're capable (anyone see the cg addition to peter pan as a test for treasure planet?)
But why bother? Pinoccio is one of the greatest animated features of all time, this would pretty much amount to rotoscoping.
Is Disney getting scared of trying new things? I've got my fingers crossed for brother bear though, it looks like the type of movie i wish spirit had been.

Shot for shot...why bother. Give us something fresh and original. This idea is lame with a capital L.

You know it can be done. But leave the true classics alone.Leave them as they are.original classics. There is already a new version coming Pinocchio 3000.:)
Disney would be turning over in his grave, where has all the orginality gone! This is Disney for Gods sake!

In the past 3 or 4 years, we've had the Drew Carey made for tv Pinnochio, the Benini one, AI, and now Pinnichio 3000. Do we really need another one? Is the story that compelling that it needs to be told so many times?

the orginal version is already perfect in itself and is a classic....no need to remake it with CGI...i say these "new generations" should look back to the orginals for they were revolutionary at their time :D

Wow, an idea even MORE stupid and insulting than the shot-for-shot remake of Psycho. Let's urinate on all the classics!
Hopefully it's just more swamp gas AICN BS, which is most likely. But it's such a lame idea I really wouldn't put it past the disney execs. They can release it on their self-destructing DVD format. :p

this strkes me as a "silly romour" i.e. just some bozo's chewing the cud and someone overhears it.....
as for if it should be remade? maybe?
Shot for shot based on the original? waste of time, but that would go for any re-make along these lines.. but I digress
silly rumour, silly idea, leave it at that....
"btw have you heard their gonna re-make the cistine chapels ceiling but in CG? OMG OMG OMG, its gonna be great, I can't wait!!!!"

If this has any truth (and in many ways I hope it hasn't).. why the hell don't they do a theatrical re release of the brilliant original.. with a decent campaign it could do far better.. and.. if it did..... would be fresh in the top 100 grossers. Certainly doing a frame by frame remake now would be pointless and not taking into account that it was made for a different era .. the original carries and would still carry that off.... a shiny new version built on the same would just seem incredibly anachronistic.. hey but I it would cut down on storyboarding innit. :D
Perhaps if they hired Gus Van Sant as a consultant he'd say... don't! LOL but there again it's so reasssurring to see that hollywood is still capable of coming up with fresh and interesting ideas.

think of all the money they would save by making it in cg shot for shot identicle
they wouldnt have to pay a director
no preproduction really
they could just email out AVI's of each shot to the artists and say "copy this"

fresh and original? this is disney we're talking about, home of infinite sequels. ;) so yah, i agree, this is lame.
i wish disney would learn that they're movies are tanking cause they suck, not becuase they're not cg. Its sad that an instutition that animators used to flock to is now a place animators want to avoid like the plague. its just so damn depressing when you read about how the disney studios used to be, and then you look at what its like now.
thank god for pixar.
