Hi there

What's the best way of generating huge realistic (and not too repetitive looking texturing) concrete floors whose texturing/ shading still looks sharp and detailed even the areas close to/ in front of the camera?

Use hi-res textures or somehow generate procedural ones?

What's your tips and suggestions?

I would first try to define your shot as best as possible so that you know what part is near to your camera. Unless you are working on a realtime environment don't try to a scene where you can place your camera everywhere.

When you know what's going to be close to the camera you can focus on adding the details where it counts. I'd use a mix of tiling concrete textures, perhaps with some procedurals for tiny details and some overlayed textures to break up the tiling. Proper lighting will also break up the tiling a lot.

I've got a lot of concrete textures on my site, click on the link in my signature to check them out.

Neil Blevins has a couple of tutorials on his site with a technique that can do it.
