View Full Version : license confusion
mharris1984 08-01-2008, 03:10 PM Hi,
I liked XSI so much that I decided to go ahead and buy myself a copy. I've just got it installed but am a bit confused..
In my start menu under softimage products I have got a link to XSI Advanced, XSI Essentials & XSI Foundation. I purchaced XSI Essentials so why is there all 3? My license key seems to work for all three as well.
cheers.

write at support@softimage.com or at licensing@softimage.com
if you just bought a license you're entitled to their support in these regards. You can rest assured it will be timely and a lot more accurate than what most people here could tell you :) (with the exception of a couple softimage employees that we can't seem to get rid of :p )

I think it's kind of a holdover from when Advanced and Essentials had different feature sets. As of 6.5, Advanced and Essentials have the same features (eg hair).
So the XSI Advanced and XSI Essentials shortcuts run XSI.bat with no flags.
That means XSI will grab the first available license: Advanced or Essentials.
In previous versions, those shortcuts ran XSI.bat -advanced and XSI.bat -essentials, which would grab specific licenses.
The XSI Foundation shortcut runs XSI.bat -foundation, and since you don't have a Foundation license, plus there is no 6.5 Foundation, XSI takes your Essentials license.
