View Full Version : afx crashing when reaching 1.4gig mem used
Stimpy 07-31-2008, 08:44 AM anyone have any experience with this ? i'm on win xp using cs3, and its been working fine for a month or so. these days though, as soon as after effects is using 1.4 - 1.5 gig of mem it just freezes up.
before it used to tell me that the ram was full or start deleting old frames out of its cache, these days it just stops.
anyone have experienced something similiar ?

Is the cache full? If so, clean it out via the prefs. Also look into the media cache in case you are usiung media that needs to be conformed (HDV and MPEG mostly). This, too, could cause any number of oddities. Besides that, the same old gag: trash the prefs.

Have you created a storage overflow folder? This always helps. As a top tip I ALWAYS 'Purge' my buffers prior to a render. It just seems to stop any stupid crashes (on CS2)

its fine when rendering actually.. rendered 4000 frames at HD res and no problems there. just when normally working with it, doing a preview, scrubbing the timeline, as soon as it hits the 1.5 gig mark it will just die.

I actually found performance/stability was worse after turning this feature on.
