View Full Version : slow motion...
mrtprodz 05-29-2003, 11:46 PM herrrr... i thought i did post this but obviously i can't find it on the forum..
first of all sorry for my bad english,
well i was wondering how i can make a (very) smooth slow
motion, do i need a camera that record at 50fps?? (i'm working on pal systems) cause it's logic that if i work with a normal 25fps video and play with speed values i'll finish with a jerky video cause it will need more frames.. err.. it's dark for me up there..
anyone as an answer... please
thanx

You can half the speed of your clip by using the fields (I'm assuming you have an interlaced clip), make sure the clip is intrepreted as upper-field-first (for PAL) then just type in 200% stretch and play, the second field will be used for those inbetween-frames. For further more extreme slowmotion you'll have to use something like Twixtor or RealWiz Retimer which is based on optical flow to interpolate new frames

thanx a lot for answering,
it's strange cause i was sure that (i work with DV) i had to choose lower field first (err...) anyway i will try to find one of thoose program that you said, maybe i'll get better results..
thanx :scream: :D

get the plugin called "Twixtor." It will take frames and interpolate between them if needed.

righto, dv is different from 601 d1
Like Opacity said use Twixtor or Retimer they are both great, for DV footage always use lower field first.

wow! thanx for these great informations :applause:
i'll search for this plugin. so if i understand right it's not only a matter of camera, we can make nice slow motion with normal based camera (25fps). this question started to annoy me :D
thanx again for your answers, i appreciate.

You can also use time stretch in combination with frame blending. The only problem is that it is tricky to get nice results and it does take a lot of computing time, but you do not need a third party plugin.
