I'm trying to get light linking to work on the fast_skin_maya subsurface scatter (sss) material. Regular maya light linking seems to work on the diffuse and specular properties but not on the subdermal layers. I have also tried using the mental ray light linking for the shader by connecting the light I wanted to exclude into the materials light list and then setting the material's light linking to "exclude". Same results. So I tried doing the same with the lightmap node connecting the light to this and setting its light linking to exclusive. No go.

So does anyone know how to get light linking to work on a SSS shader?

if you a light linking, you still see soem sort of scatter, this is actually the lightmap node returning the info back ot the shader

if you break the lightmap from the SG node..you will get the black result(or light linking)

Exactly. And clearly I do not want to disconnect the lightmap since this would break the skin shader. So how would I light link the lightmap?

then you should try the custom linking under the lightmap node itself + the ligh linking from Maya

Yes I did that (see the OP). Didn't work.

Hey, same problem here ! I was about to start a thread, so I'll just put it here I guess:

So, I'm currently shading a scene in which I need misss_fast shaders and need some help about light-linking sss shaders...

My situation is the following: the lighting of my scene was done in such a way that I'm forced to use one version of my SSS object to be actually lit, and thus shaded, and another to get cast shadows, each version being lit by a different light, and it is essential that they both belong to the same pass (color).
So I light-linked my shading version to the light with the proper settings to get a good shading result, and my shadows version to the other light.

My problem is the following: the goddamn linking doesn't work in ANY way on misss shaders...
At first I used a basic misss_fast_shader, and I noticed it had no "light linking" tab, so I thought maybe that was the problem, so I switched for a misss_fast_simple. I tried about all the proposed linking modes, and none of them works. I'm freaking out :banghead:

Sharktacos, if you found a solution, now would be a good time to share :D

This is pretty urgent since the shading should be over for yesterday, so any suggestion that is likel to help the tiniest bit is very welcome :)

Thanks !
