Title: Bust of Sky Captain Bert
Name: Simon Christoffersen
Country: Denmark
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop
I took a trip to the National Gallery with a borrowed camara and a borrowed chrome ball (which was actually a saltshaker... Chrome balls are aparently very hard to get a hold of in Denmark).
Implemented my 3D model, using Maya and Photoshop.
Any oppinions? :)

Only 5% of the image is CG and it's so small in the picture we can't even see that properly.

The first is cool, very well done however the second is less accurate. The hightlights at the right does not match.
good job overall

I think you did an overall good job. The biggest give away is the part where the sculpture touches the pedestal; something seems to be amiss. (shadow anyone?) and the wall behind should also receive some diffused shadow.
I like the fact that you spent time to match the noise and abberation. Just needs some relighting and shadowing.
I agree on the highlight comment as well.

I agree that the first is the best of the two as far as blending in. I'd like to see you focus on showing your work though. Blending in is pretty good, but what are you showing here. Your sculpture or matte touch up?
At a quick glance I believed the image so blending is not bad.
Some things that might help: The sculpture has too much blue light for this room. The room is lit from above with yellow light. Use the the dark sculpture with the back to us as a reference to the spot colors. The pillar your in front of is blocking the skylights bluish tint from the other room. You can see from the hallways that blue is not the color filling that area. The other thing I noticed is the image is much sharper then the photo. Noise/ grain is not going to soften your edges or fix contrast. A good working plan is to Check your channels and see if anything stands out. If it does then it's not blending to what your trying to achieve.
I can't sculpt in 3D but I do a lot of photo manipulation and product placements for print.
Overall it's good and you have only minor tweaks make it wow. But please zoom in on the image to show your sculpting talent.
Thanks.

Thanks a lot. I'll definitely keep these things in mind next time I make a project like this. As you said, the grain won't edges and contrast. When I made this, I was kinda hoping that it would do just that. Also next time, I'll definitely give more thought to the cropping and framing of the picture.
Somehow I feel that I've learned more from reading comments and critique, than I did making the picture. So thanks for the input :)
