LightWave needs (like Maya, Max, XSI) CGTools to address DirectX 9 effects (nvidia/ati).
The shader tools are already available for Max and Maya, we need those for LightWave as well.

Emmanuel,

Isn't this about the 4th or 5th thread you've started about this?

:)

Regards,
Matt

Hi Matt !

Yo, maybe, but as along as people scream "unification!" I will yell for "make LW at least working with today's game standards!" :))

Emmanuel,

hehehehe, 'unification' is such a dirty word ;)

Kind Regards
Matt.

Most things aren't done for LW because of the poor SDK.

Agree 1000000000% !!!!

Here in lies the utmost defeat that will be LW8 - no SDK expansion. NT, wake up please.

It'd be interesting, if NT ever does decide to integrate real-time shaders for things like Direct X, to see how they handle it on the Mac side, or if we'll get the shaft once again...:hmm:

Here's why Lightwave needs what Emmanuel is advocating:

No flame here. Just information.

There is no DirectX on the Mac, so if the Windows version supports DirectX 9 shaders I don't see how that would mean NewTek is Mac users are getting the shaft.

What I meant was, whatever the "equivalent" of DirectX would be on the Mac (Quickdraw? RAVE? OpenGL?)...I'm not a game programmer, so I don't really know...

It would be OpenGL on the Mac. They should do OpenGL on both, but also add DX9 to the PC version. The reason being that if you're working in games using custom DX9 shaders you don't want to rewrite them all in OpenGL so you can preview them in LW.

If we are talking about Dx9 support, we really don't need to talk Macs.
They are pretty unimportant in the game market today, but both XBox and PC use DirectX, and for these two platforms we need the appropriate preview options.
PCs are also the main platform for game development (see why discreet never really needed to port Max), an that is all that counts for me.
