Hi,

Would any seasoned compositor have an opinion on approaching depth of field when composting 3d elements?

I'll be rendering passes out of Maya and am trying to decide which is going to give me better results -- Frischluft Lenscare (http://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/lenscare.php) or X-Dof Studio (http://www.evasion3d.com/) from Evasion.

As far as I can tell, the first would be easier on the pipeline as it plugs into AE, but the level of control + big name studio clients seem to point to the latter.

Penny for your thoughts,
- Igor

That's very much subject to point of view. Lenscare has been used in god knows how many bazillion commercials and film productions, but I guess Philip has better things to do than list all of them and brag about it... ;-) Also not sure why you think it would provide less control. Have you ever downloaded the demo? The only thing it doesn't have built-in is chromatic abberation, but considering that there's a ton of ways to create it natively in AE (and giving credit to the fact, that it's not necessarily a typical DOF-only related item), that's just a minor thing.

I would go Lenscare everytime - it's never let me down

Thanks guys, sounds like Lenscare would be the better choice though I wish X-dof would have a demo of their product for a real comparison. I asked them about it a while back, but looks like you just have to buy to see. Kinda lame.
