View Full Version : Orbit stutters and sticks
TBart 07-28-2008, 08:09 PM When I orbit around ('s' key, RMB), it keeps stuttering and sticking. This happened to me about a year ago and then went away, but now it's back and it's driving me crazy. I'm using 6.02 on Vista64 with an 8800GT. I just updated the video drivers to the latest release and my mouse buttons and keyboard are fine, so I don't think that's the problem. Any ideas?

I think that may be the problem. Try reverting to the previous drivers.

Actually I updated to try and fix the problem, so I don't think that's it. After messing around some more, I realized that it only happens when I try to orbit too quickly. If I move the mouse slowly, it won't happen. Why would it do that?
Edit: It's much less likely to happen when the mouse moves slowly, but it still happens to some degree.

Well, I plugged in a different mouse, which didn't work at all, plus my keyboard wouldn't work then either. So, I rebooted the computer, plugged the original mouse in, and everything worked with no more stuttering. I have no idea what happened, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth and will pretend like I fixed it.
Hey Tim:
I have no solution for you, but it happens to me occasionally too, for some reason unknown to me. I find that if I switch out of the S tool and back, it usually clears it up. I'm also using Vista. I'm also using a wireless Logitech mouse. Any chance that's what you're using too? (Not sure that's the culprit, but I figured that since I now know someone else with this problem, I might ask.)

Hey, I'm using a Logitech MX510 (optical, wired). Maybe it's a Logitech issue? Oh well, as long as there is a relatively easy fix for when it happens. Maybe I'll use my Wacom mouse for a while and see if it happens then.

A ha, this makes me wonder if it might be the Logitech software. Let's see if anyone else comes across this. I'll poke around in the settings for that tonight and see if there might be something that "feels" like it might muck with the S command.
