wigaru, will it render textures? i am using maya 5's vector renderer. it isnt rendering textures which is a shame i never used it up until now, and it wont render textures. will this plug in do that?

Don't use the vector renderer as a toonshader, unless you're actually outputting to flash. Just composite the outlines in a comp program.
Tomcat Toonshader just deals with the outlines (and is way more flexible and powerful than the vector renderer). You could add a brush to any existing shading network, in the case above it was a ramp shader, it could just as easily be a blinn with a texture.

Here's a little test I did on a already finished project, just to try out version 1.1 of TCS. Needless to say I just bought the commercial version today...:) I wanted a sketchy look, almost as every frame was hand drawn, so that all lines would jump around. I also put 5 randomized crosshatched textures in the shading ramp to get that extra hand-drawn look.

Patrick (spyral00), you're a genius.

Very nice Graf, that should definitely go in the gallery. How did you get the sketchy shadows under the chin?

Thanx guys,
The etchy shadows where made out of 5 textures (as I mentioned in my last post). I made the textures by using the same brush as for my outline and sketched a crosshatch pattern in a PaintEffects window. I then put these textures in the dark part of the ramp that controls the shadow in the shading network. I wrote a little expression to get Maya to randomly select which texture to use. Since this was version 1 of the plug I couldn't do a batch renderer, it would only render the first frame correctly. So I wrote a DOS-batch file to render each frame separately. This caused Maya to choose the same texture for the shadows every time (seemed like the rand function started on the same number each time:))so there was a little bit of hazzle to get the expression to work the way I intended.
