Hello,

I would like to hide parts of my model slowly.

For example, I have a human model (say NURBs model). Now I want to animate it such that first its feet are hidden. Then knees ... then torso like that...

I would like to get the effect of object dissolving from bottom to top into thin air.

Could someone please indicate which is the best way to do this?

The problem is, I can animate the transparency of the object in its entirety (by animating the visibility attribute) - but that is not what I want. I want be able to animate the transparency of the parts of the object.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hook up the transparency to a ramp node and animate the ramp sliders.

Hook up the transparency to a ramp node and animate the ramp sliders.
Wouldn't it be best to use the ramp as a mask and then compute the desired effect in post, rather that using the ramp to drive transparency directly in maya ?

I think it could also be worth having an eye on particles for such an effect. Would sure take some time, but if the character's supposed to "vanish in the air", it might give a relsut closer to the desire effect.

i'd do something like that in post with an animated mask
