View Full Version : Swapping textures during animation

Hi peoples,

This is my first time posting on these forums although I have been a regular reader of them for quite a while...

My query is to figure out how to swap an objects texture during an animation.

For example:

I have a lego man character, I textured his face with a picture of him smiling - during the animation I need to change the expression on his face. I have attempted several methods that seemed like good ideas to me but each attempt changed the texture for the whole animation and not at a specific time like I needed. Seems pretty simple to swap one texture for another at a speciifc keyframe but I can't get it to work...

Does anyone have any ideas that would help me out here?

Thanks in advance! :)

In the file texture node there is an option called use "frame extension" or something like that. you can key this and if your file textures have numeric extensions like file1.tif, file2.tif and so on, Maya reads the specified texture @ the specified frame. Usually used for BG plates on a camera imageplane, but I think that `s the one you should take a look at.
I hope this helps
