Can you fade the opacity on point particles when rendering with mental ray (using 2008 sp1)?

Works fine when I plug the particleSamplerInfo into a particleCloud shader on the cloud particle type, but not so on a lambert applied to points. Hmmm...

Wow. Can anything from particleSamplerInfo work on points with mental ray?

Try the help docs, I dont think much has changed in terms of compatibility with PSi node and MR, MR and Maya still struggle to work together.

After work I checked it out and I think point size and position were the only per particle attributes- some of the other new particle rendering modes had a few more attributes, but everything good is missing.

Before I left I switched to blobbies with a tiny radius- .002 or so. For 250,000 particles it renders about ten times slower (with motion blur on both versions) which is disappointing.
