I've been seeing some changes to my drawing and would love to proceed but i want to get his ball / plane concept through my thick head. I've not fully understood it.

I've been reading fun with pencil and draw heads and hands. He described the ball and plane technique for drawing heads. Now the problem is i get the Ball bit but i don't understand what he meant by the plane.
I see only lines such as

browline, earline, nose etc..

The plan he is talking about, is that the faces you from the lines? or something else.

I hope someone can help me clear it up.

Thanks in advance.

hello

you see lines because you haven't fully accepted the concept of seeing in 3D

the head is big volume, that you can ROUGHLY break into other volumes, (example: the nose can be seen as pyramid in somes faces)
so the nose has 3 plane (very roughly) this is called construction
the forehead is more planar than rounded, it's another plane. Of course a beautifull drawn head is combination of rounded and planar (rectangular) volumes

there is a good plate of head planes in loomis 's figure for all it's worth. Also you should read successfull drawing after fun with pencil

hope this is helpfull, good luck
