Hey Guys, havent posted anything in...hmm have I actually posted a wip before? dunno, anyway here's the curent project I'm working on. It's for an ongoing project on anothe forum called 'BREACH'. The idea of the project was set up by Jesse Brophy and is as follows:
----------

The year is 2329 and humans have taken to space. Numerous alien species have been encountered while exploring the heavens and over time trade negotiations have been created. An extensive network or trade routes have been established into the far reaches of the Galaxy with innumerable colonies. Many of the ships that have to transport the various goods along these trade routes go unguarded by colony military. Many times these ships fall prey to space pirates. These pirates attach their ships and breach the hulls. They then board the transport vessel killing everyone living thing in their path and pillaging the ship. Numerous ship corpses of various races can be seen ominously floating along the trade routes and serve as a reminder to the trade ship’s captains to be ever vigilant.
Your assignment is to create the character, creature, robot or whatever is in your imagination that first comes through that door. What badass creature steps off the pirate ship onto the trade ship first to a ship full of armed tradesmen ready for battle? Is it a guy so covered in armor he is untouchable? A stealthy alien who uses the smoke and fire as cover to get in undetected to eviscerate the crew? A robot that rolls in to unleash terror? It depends on what is in your imagination.

tri limit: 15,000
texture limit: 2048 for each map type
----------

The idea is pretty much make an alien pirate ;)
So after a while I set sail on some concepts and arrived at a final twisted idea.

My idea is basically there is a race of slug type creatures (name of race still to be decided, any suggestions?) that take the human body, attach themselves to their spine via the two rows of spikes running down their underbellies, they clutch the skull and control their actions through the tube which gets forced through the back of the head and into the brain. To make the human even more formidable they do some frankenstein style surgery and splice to humans together. Meanwhiel the young of the slugs bore their way through the human body feeding on their soft caramel centre until they are big enough to find their own unsuspecting human.

I've already come some of the way through the project, Ive done the modelling and am onto the texturing. I'd love to know what you think, if anything needs improving let me know and I'll see what I can do.

here's a shortened version of the progress so far

Looks good, but I don't know how well it fits the "pirate" theme. Parasite/Scavenger, yes, but I can't imagine them caring much about the cargo the ship would be carrying. Sounds as though they are more apt to want only the occupants.

Seems like the only ship these pirates want are the hulls of the dead. ;) I dig the idea. Very brutal. The only thing that strikes me as awkward is how brutal and graphic it is, but also symetrical. I assume these things kind of sew the bodies together to make their own use of them? That's what I got from just looking at the images, and if so it'd be cool to see some that were really hacked together, instead of two bodies stacked directly on top of one another you get them at odd angles, i.e. top body is connected to lower body because lower bodies arm is wedged up through the tops abdominal cavity for better support. I dunno, that just stood out, but I dig the modelling and texturing start for sure. can't wait to see it done.

Cheers guys, yeah the symmetry is a big obstacle I've had from the start with this one, and might not have got over it to be honest as you have pointed out. Hopefull the texturing will bring it a bit away from the symmetry. And yeah the whole 'fitting in with the pirate theme' thing, I too realised that and tried to inlcude some stereotypical pirate themes as a kind ofjokey thing to compenstate i.e the peg leg, parrot/slug on the shoulder, the cutlass .etc

here's a unpdate on the big slug texture, I think im pretty much done now with this guy, on to the small baby slugs

let me now what you think :)

Oh I just commented on the symmetry thing because I liked the idea so much my mind just started to take it places. It's still a good concept.

Your work looks nice, but I am wondering why you put so much effort into places that might not otherwise be seen at all (like the slugs mouth, etc)

Looking forward to seeing it finished.

That is one crazy concept! Very interesting for sure. It should be interesting to see it posed or better yet, in motion. I could only imagine how it moves.

Colors seem a bit washed out, but it could be a style choice. Reminds me a little bit of the monsters in "Prey".

I only just got a little notification that your thread had updated...

Creepy!

I think this is a cool creature. I would lower the spec overall, except in areas where it's supposed to be wet, and I would add much more blood and gore to the fleshy areas of the host, or just dirt in general to much of it.

I like the creature most of all! It's a good creepy design.
