Hi everyone,

I really hope someone can explain texturing brick surfaces
I've downloaded brick textures which are divided into 3 folders: Colour/Bump/Spec

When I map the colour image to wall all I get is the brick grout as outlines and the brick is transparent ,

the only way a could get a red brick colur to come through was to create a red coloured duplicate surface behind it
I know this can't be right: what am I missing here?
how would I 'fill ' the brick colour in?

I would be grateful for any help on this

TIA

Simon

right click (shift-click on a mac?) on the word 'transparency' for your shader (in the attribute editor) and select break connections. Your image file has an alpha and by default maya hooks this up to transparency.

Thanks for this Cameo

that makes sense now,

I'm still not sure why the texture
had an alpha on it: what advantage would that give
to have the brick as transparent?

I can see from your work (very excellent by the way)
you have a lot of knowledge here

can I ask how would you use this texture?

Cheers

Just because the image has an alpha doesnt necessarily mean it has to be connected to transparency, you could hook it up to any of the shader attributes if you wanted to isolate a certain effect.
