View Full Version : realistic bronze.. tips?
jordanMARX 07-22-2008, 11:18 PM ...I'm creating a 'steampunk' (sorta) version of napoleon..and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for drawing realistic bronze in photoshop?...know of any good tutorials? I'm modeling the head after a french horn..(kind of).
any tips or crits in general would be wonderfull..! thanks in advance.

I like the idea, its unique. It brings to mind something more victorian than steampunk. Somewhat the same, but doesn't matter.
Either way, reflective surfaces are some of the hardest things to paint. It's all about value, and how the surface reacts to the environment. I don't know of any tutorials off the top of my head, but I can definitely recommend checking out a lot of references.
You have a good start on it anyhow, you have the contrast and rim-lighting/reflectivity down roughly.
So far the face is a little hard to make out. It would nice to see something that also suggested napoleons likeness, if possible.
The body doesn't look far enough along to comment on.
I like the idea! Looking forward to seeing the rest.

theres just one tip I can give you. Materials like copper get less saturated the darker they get. Which is a very special attribute. Not sure about bronze though...
