After the Max 'How to make a human eye' thread in the Max tutorials forum. I decided to give eyes another go.

Please give me some feedback.

the texture looks pretty good. but it looks like the area pupil is too bright i think you should fix this but. it might just be my monitor. great work anyway.

Ye i need to work on the texture more. I think I need to give the white area of the eye more depth, more life and not so plain white if you see what I mean. Veins etc.

Here is an update. Ive added some water at the bottom of the eye, given it a tear duct and tried to put some more life into the white. Its a hard balance I think between to much and to little (well obviously hehe :)) Well Ill keep working on it. The textures are all hand painted apart from the cornia (spelling ?) which is touched up from a photo I took.

Ive blacked out the parts of the eye that arnt visible if there was skin around it, skin to come.

seven: your avatar cracks me up. lol

thats the kitchen hdri reflection isnt it? thats the one part i dont like that much. maybe try putting the reflection value down a touch.

it would probably look way diffrent with a face surrounding it though. maybe you should model the eyelid and surrounding area? the texture for the iris is friggin great. where the hell did u get that?:D

hehe, my avatar is an image of the first thing I made in Max. I was trying to create a human head. I think i suceeded dont you :) lol

Yeah it is the kitchen one, im looking into making my own HDR images. My bro suggested toning down the reflection abit aswell. He agrees with you :) Ill try it and see what it looks like.

I am working on making the surrounding skin and eyelid etc. Im taking it slowly, one step at a time. Im having some trouble getting the skin to look right but when im more happy with it ill post an image for crits.

The iris is a photo I took aggeesss ago with my digital camera. The photo only had a small section of the iris on so I had to manufacture alot of it in Photoshop.. took a while.

Does it look wet to you ?

Thanks for the crits.

haha, thats a mighty first attempt of a 3d head!lol!

mind you, my first 3d model was a sphere...ahem....

anyways, heres a link on how to make yer own hdri images...

http://www.hello-napalm.com/tuts/tut_hdri.html

also see www.3dtotal.com . they have a good hdri tutorial in thier too.

one step at a time is a good way to work. just keep focusing on what u want to acheive and all that.

and yes, i think your eye looks wet. soaking in fact! was it crying with laughter at your avatar?? LOL!

:D

i think the "gloss" clear outter layer is too far from the eye... in addition, the "gloss" over the iris is WAY to far out... i dont know about you, but what I look at someones eyes, i dont see a huge bubble like that in front of the iris.

other than that, it looks pretty good... nice fiber texture, and the HDRI is pretty cool, except my eyes usually arent that damn shiney.

Looks good....essentially though, the pupil is a hole in the middle of the iris and, for me, its offputting to have it as a texture...if you're not doing close ups though then it'll probably be fine. How have you done the iris texture? Hand-painted or photograph?

I agree about the distance between the eye and the outer later, I hadn't noticed that.. nice observation. Ill alter that when I get home tomorrow.

I have reduced the gloss / reflection and it does look better, ill update this thread with an image as soon as possible.

Good point about the pupil. I will model it instead of having just a texture. I want to be able to zoom in as close as I have and still keep the lvl of detail.

The iris texture is roughly 30 % digital photo 70 % painted in Photoshop, ive been perfecting it over quite a while now. I think ive got it right.

Thanks

An update...

Ive reduced the reflection, modeled the iris instead of a texture, the dome infront of the eye has gone and some other changes I cant remember.

This is my first draft of the skin to go around the eye, still some things wrong with it but I thought id post it for some feedback as I work on it.

Here is a quick mov i made, very quick :)

http://www.artbyseven.com/eyemove1.mov

Its 102k and please forgive the missing white area texture at the end, I forgot the texture doesnt go back that far. But as I rendered it I thought I would post it.

I think it makes the eye look more real than a still. Oh well thats my opinion :)

hehe :) shall I enter my avatar for Expose? :)

Heres another simple animation test. No textures this time and the cyclinder is only there to show what direction the eye is looking.

Trying to get the deform correct. Ive also made some slight alterations to the shape of the mesh since last post.
