View Full Version : Real time painting with photoshop!
feedmeastraycat 05-28-2003, 08:12 PM I'm cross-posting this from the technical hardware forum.
Is there anyone from Discreet or Alias out there? I started a thread on Adobe Photoshop's users forum about real-time cross-application painting and they are interested in talking about setting up an API. If anyone has any contacts with someone who matters, send them over to the Feature Request forum, or have them contact me or Chris Cox at Adobe. Below is a link to the forum, hopefully it works for you:

Thanks everybody!

I assume you already know about the Maya to photoshop connection script at highend3D?

But it really doesn't do alot for me. It still requires me to save my photoshop image (as something other than psd) in order to see the changes.
What we're talking about here is real integration with photoshop, not just ugly hacks.

The "ugly hack" as you so like to call it, actually works quite well.
Try the ATR pluging posted where Bliz sent you.
It works quite well, and is a very small and free plugin from Maya to P-shop.
I imagine it would be fantastic if you had two monitors, oh heavenly bliss.

Didn't mean to offend by that remark. I wasn't trying to attack that plugin, it is a pretty cool plugin and I appreciate the work that has gone into it.
It's just that it's not an ideal solution, not becuase the plugin is made poorly, but that it has to deal with the limitations with how PS interacts with maya. It's a good workaround. You still have to run an action after you paint a stroke, and maya is constantly looking for a change to reload the texture. What I think we really want in the end is to be able to make a paint stroke and have it show up in maya real time. That's what I hope will happen.
(if i'm wrong about how the plug-in works, please correct me.)

true integration with photoshop would be very nice indeed!
