View Full Version : `Modelling Axis`
MidnightCow 07-22-2008, 12:01 PM Why is it that i can only change the `modelling axis` (for example within the move or rotate tools) when in polygon/point/edge mode? Is there a way to change it for a top level object (it`s always greyed out)?

Hi, go to structure>axis center and there are many options there.

I would also like to know. The workaround with the modelling axis is not so handy.

3dj: Yeh that`s useful thanks but for example, if i wanted to quickly move an object along the `world` axis, then rotate it around its `object` axis, this is impossible. In 3dMax u can even select an alternative object and use its axis.. And also, if u have a number of objects selected and u rotate them, u have the option to rotate each obect around its own local axis or rotate all around the centre of the selection..

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you want - you can do this is C4D:
Create a cube, create a null somewhere else.
Select both. Get the rotate tool.
Now click on one of three axis (the null axis, the mid-point axis, or the cube axis) to determine the point of rotation.

Yep, a Null will help, but it is easier in Modo for sure. Also, that is one thing I really wish we had, Modo has a great way to manipulate separate poly's/objects with their local axis. Very helpful.

Have you ever tried using F10 and F11 to move around the axis for polys, points or egdes? You can snap it wherever you want.

Yes, in sub-object mode works everything fine. The problem is in the "model tool".

Yeh, the problem is in object mode - basically it would be nice to have access to the `Modelling Axis` options when in object mode.. (with one or two functional additions i could think of)
Having workarounds is fine but when u have to perform these operations potentially a hundred times in one session u don`t want to be creating nulls and offsetting manually etc every single time..
Cheers
