View Full Version : Radiosity and HDRI?

Hi there,
I need some advice on this one. I'm using radiosity to light this scene, using a paralel spot for the sunlight and two omni lights for the bed lamps.
Would HDRI make it more realistic?
If so, can i use the HDRI reflection/environment spheres along with the background plane?
Thanks!

HDRI might help, but first you ahve to balance out the lighting. sunlight is a lot stronger than lamplight, so those lights by the bed need to be toned down some. get the lighting from the artificial lights right to begin with.
then if you want to have hdri affect the scene but not be visible, just make your hdri sphere with a compositing tag with sen by camera switched off, if you have glass in the windows, then you will also need to switch off seen by rays, provided seen by gi isn't switched off it should affect your scene nicely.

Thanks for the fast reply!
The sunlight is a bit weak on purpose, since the background photo was taken at 10 a.m.
I'll give a try anyway. I'll bring the artificial lights down and the sunlight up.
I'm not sure i understood the hdri part.
My windows have glass, where should i set "seen by rays" off? in the hdri sphere or in the window glass?
Also, i remember when i first read about hdri in C4D, that you should use 2 spheres: one for GI and another one for the reflections.
Should i use both?

heh, that was in my faking HDRI tutorial, you can still read it on Anders site

with a transparent material in the windows you will have to have seen by rays off, and so you won't get any hdri reflections in your scene (the reason being seen by rays would make your hdri material show up through your the transparent material in the window). these settings should be on the compositing tag attached to the hdri sphere.
