Is there a way to render the hidden spline inside another polygon object with sketch and toon module? In the attachment, I have a spline passing through a cube. I tried to assign a sketch material to the hidden spline in the render setting, but I get no rendering for the spline inside the cube. Anyone knows how to do this? Thanks.

you need to look into the advanced settings of the material under the render page for a drop down near the bottom called mode. This is the culling mode and by default materials are set to scene meaning lines will be culled by other objects in the scene. Setting it to self means that the cube will not cull the spline so it renders fully.

Thanks LucentDreams! I tried your method, it worked. The problem I still have is that I couldn't differentiate the spline inside and outside the cube. I try to get final result shown in the attached figure, which was made in photoshop by blending two separate renderings. Can I do this with a single rendering in C4D? Thanks.

Maybe split the spline into 3 objects, one that ends in the top centre of the cube, a spline in the middle of the cube and one that exits the bottom. Then apply solid lines to the top and bottom splines and a dotted on to the middle. I don't know if this will work but it's worth a try.

If you have more complex splines and objects then use duplicate splines and boolean objects to get solid line versions and dotted versions

all the best

If you set your hidden cull setting to children and put the spline as a child of the cube, it will render anything inside the cube as a hidden line. You'll need to enable the advanced controls to see that option.

Thanks PrinceOD. It works very well :)
