Hello there,

I'm just wondering regarding the CD-RW drive of a laptop in particular. Is burning a CD through a laptop reliable??? Would there be much of a problem as compare to burning a CD with a desktop computers?

Also with a laptop, is combo drive an acceptable way to go or would it be better if there is an option where the CD-RW and DVD-ROM are seperate. Then what if the only option was a combo drive, would it eventually ruin the laser head as time goes on???

eh, these things last quite a while and in terms of reliability, if u didn't get some really cheap OEM junk and got the laptop and burner from the manufacturer of the laptop, ur usually OK ... especially if u got it from Dell. Expensive as heck but rock solid. In any case, it's going to be slower if ur using a combo drive because being a single CD tray, the laptop must copy all the data to the hard drive first before spooling it back to a blank CD. If u got urself an external burner, u could do the burn more directly ... but in any case, they're about the same ... though I prefer a desktop for convenience.
