View Full Version : Has anyone ever got SySkin to work?
pooby 07-21-2008, 10:46 AM If so, I'd love to know the procedure, as I've tried everything, and can't get it to do what it describes in the docs.

make sure you wrap a copy of your Skin around your bones ( all mesh must have the same Topology ) to connect to your main skin. ( you can't just connect your bones to your skin )
I find Syflex needs ALOT of copy's or reference hidden and such,. but sort of makes scents
I have used it with Flesh and got very good results. keep going it does work

Ok, I've tried every permutation I can concieve of, and I can't get it working.
I'd be grateful Please, if you don't mind explaining it in detail.
Are the two identical meshes meant to keep a live connection to the generated combined Skin one or do you envelope to the inner skin mesh? (which doesn't appear to work)
Is there some order it needs to be in the stack?
I can't get bones to do anything at all to the skin. Do you need to pin or something, or do you HAVE to use a flesh collision object?
The docs are ridiculously simplistic on this. I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing things.
OK done a quick reflesher
- create 2 cylinders ( one 0.1 bigger width then the other )
- draw a bone chain then enveloped the smaller cylinder to the chain bones
Select both Cyclinders and hit Syflex menu -> cloth -> create Skin
BAM !! both your cylinders should be hidden
and a NEW object polymsh should be created ( this is your new SKIN object )
with Syproperties and SyPropertiesSkin operators attached.
check the operators and change the settings
NOW I don't have time to dig up the syflex rig all done up to check everything,.. abit busy right now...
BUT I remember I used muscles with Syflesh on them for fat and wobbly bits and i edited my envelope mesh alot to get the effect ( tightness and flex etc ) just right
I've been doing syflex alot laterly but mainly cloth I fine editing the guide objects and deleteing and clearing out syflex and then reapply fresh Syflex operators , much easier and faster work flow then to edit and edit and edit the syflex setting and object to get what you want.. ( tho save and loading your setting onto the new operator saves alittle time )
Plus i fine after any editing of the input items syflex freaks and bugs out XSI and it's best to reapply anyway ,..but that may be just me...

Ok, my XSI must be broke.
I did that and nothing happens.

If you're on maintenance why don't you give them a ring and let us know how it goes!

Yes, I'll try that. I'm just intrigued (and a little irritated) that T4D can do it and I can't on my own merits. :)
see if you can play this model
just drag and drop and play to check if you get any effect.

Thanks Tc,
Yes I can get that one to work because it has no bones, you've used a nail instead on the inner mesh.
It's the using bones bit I can't get.
I can get a general wibbly wobbly thing that just sits there, but no reaction from an envelope.

One thing that doiesn't help is that the syflex sliders are so cryptic, with their .000023453 numbering and such.
The slightest variation in one direction can have a universe of difference in the effect, and it seems impossible to get rid of that "bouncy" look.
How is anyone supposed to know if they need the damping on the bend to be .00003456, or 1?

I got a reply from Softimage suggesting to use Pins which makes sense, but isnt mentioned in the docs.
So I don't know how t4d did it.
