Hey guys,
(@Admins: I hope this is appropriate, if not, feel free to delete the thread)
I've been working on a repository for CG Artists, basically, a place where Artists can place all their knowledge and share with one another. I got this idea after I created this thread:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=7&t=528268
In the Maya board here. I always wanted to have a simple system where I could just put in things I just learned or things that would be interesting for my work, a system that could be search- and easily updateable. But then I thought that it'd be great if I'd not be the only one who would contribute to a system like this - and so, the CGRepository was born.
The goal is to have a system that's easy to manage and dedicated to sharing knowledge about CG, means: Scripts, Ideas about Workflows, discussing new tools and techniques, up to more specific stuff like how you personally handle naming conventions, etc. I want artists, programmer and tool devs to help out one another.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that this could be useful. Now, the system is running for like 3 weeks now, but I've been terribly busy with work, so I didn't have as much time as I hoped I would for setting up Members and so on.
The CGRepository right now is NOT an open system. In order to keep it clean, I want to keep it really small for the time being and let it grow organically, then make it read only, cause I think it'd be unfair after a while to hold back the information. Right now, it's still like a construction site, where things still change a lot, even the framework and so on.
If you're a dedicated artist who knows his shit, likes the idea of this and wants to contribute, feel free to contact me at thomas@thomasmahler.com . Please use "CGRepository" as subject.
I need your real name and email that you'd want to use and feel free to send me a real photo of yourself as well + a link to your homepage, your portfolio or something (we all have to contribute some content, so it's a good thing to start with people that already can contribute from day 1, this is NOT because I want to build up an elitist system, quite the contrary), so I'll set up the user profile and send you a mail with all the data you need. After you login at http://www.cgrepository.com , change your password and start sharing. I figure that if we already put in work, we could use this as a contact base, as a who's who.
Don't worry if it can take a week to process your data, I have to do that manually and I'm pretty busy right now, so that's to be expected.
Note: The Repository is never going to be a place like CGTalk or any other big forum. It's what it is: A knowledge base from artists for artists.
That'd be all :)
