View Full Version : Combine SSS with 2nd material
JohnBellas 07-18-2008, 10:08 PM hi guys,
i'm wondering if there is a way to plug in/combine an SSS material such as misss_fast_simple with a simple shader like a phong? i'm doing some render tests on my object, and i do like how my sss shader turned out, but i'd also like to have controls such as whiteness, roughness, etc. that you get with a typical shader.
so, in short, i want a regular shader, like a phong or a blinn, with sss controls as well. i know, sounds weird. any ideas?

u can plug your sss shader into the 'additional light' slot found in the advanced tab of a mia material.
u have to do something extra with the shading group, like plug the sss into the surface shader slot of the mia shading group as well maybe but cant remember off the top of my head. But i know it was possible as was shown by Bart of mental images at the end of the training class.
For correct info go to the lamrug forum and post this question.

I know what you mean, but you are making the simple beccome more complicated. First, you must know WHAT effect you want to add, not the whole shader attr
Like:
Glossiness
Rim reflection
Refraction
Glossi refr
Ambient Occlusion
etc...
They are just layer effect on top of your base SSS. Most is screen/add mode, only AO is multiply. So that s theory for adding effect
Practice: Layer a shader with effect on top of SSS shader, and get effect you want. I myself use mix_8_layer, many guys around here use the mib_mix_color and get same effect.
Do a search and choose what you want.
