That's not a very good threadname is it?

I'll soon be visiting a friend who owns XSI, much to my delight. I have absolutely zero experience with it, but I do have a great deal of interest in the program though. I've mostly just ignored XSI when I've seen it around, but at this years 3D Festival it really caught my eye. Maybe because Half-Life 2 is based around it, I don't know, but it looks extremly promising I thought.

But I guess people in here already know that..

My question for now is actually extremly simple: What version is XSI at today?
At the 3D Festival they used, I think, 3.5 or 3.6, but it's as if the XSI webpage has a lot of 3.0 stuff going on still. I can't seem to figure out if 3.5 is a downloadable update of sorts for 3.0, or an entirely new program one buys, or if it's even out yet at all.

And a sidequestion, just because I might as well ask now: if 3.5 is out and about, would anyone happen to know if there'll be a 3.5 EXP version at some point as well?

And that's it.. this won't matter with my visit, regardless of what version he has I'll give it a try and hopefully pick up the basics, but I'm just curious to know these things and found myself strangly unable to figure it out by myself.

Such a long post for such a simple question..

XSI is currently at 3.0.1... the 3.5 "upgrade" is to be released in a few weeks. It is an upgrade (gotta pay). 3.5 EXP may be released, or they may wait till version 4... we'll proabably know by the end of summer.

You might want to check out 3Dbuzz, they have ten downloadable XSI introduction videos (VTM), quite nicely done and easy to follow. You'll need to register on the site, but other than that they're completely free.

It's not a good thread name. It's "buffoons";)

Most of us "XSI'ers" are thinking the EXP edition will be reserved for when 4.0 is released.

Also, in addition to 3d Buzz, check out Highend 3D (http://www.highend3d.com) and XSI Base (http://www.xsibase.com) for good stuff.

That would infact be buffoon's, I would argue, now that we're correcting eachother .
Anyway, I must've been misspelling that word for years now, egads.

That's totally off-topic though!, I just couldn't resist posting. I'll be quiet now :).

Thanks for the extra linkage, looks like a mighty cool forum over at xsibase. Scans indicate high quantities of goodness.
