View Full Version : "Poly-->Sub-D" to NURBS conversion

I am in the process of modeling a submarine, and I did a poly-->SubD-->Nurbs conversion of the "con tower", and it worked ok...

But when I try to convert a "perfect" Poly-->SubD surface (submarine hull) to Nurbs, I get numerous nurbs patches that does not seem to be easily "attatchable"...

Is there a way to convert a SubD surface into a SINGLE nurbs surface without any extra work?

I really want to use the nurbs tools on my submarine, right now it seems I have to settle for really labourius poly work.

Unless its a really simple model I do not think it will be possible to get a single nurbs surface out of it, but you can get a really clean multipatch model. However, I believe that if you have any triangles or non-quads in your subd surface the nurbs patch could be messy.

Wohho, I just want to mention it.

The submarine hull is made out of all square polys, not a single triangle on the entire hull.
:p

Ok, I guess there is no wonderous and easy solution to this... or maybe...

why dont you just leave it as a sub division model?

Want to use the nurbs trim tools to cut the holes for drainage. It's a bit more hassle to do it with the poly tools.

A submarine shouldn't be hard to be modeled in Nurbs i think.
But it don't bother that your subd to Nurbs conversion doesn't make one Nurbs surface out of it. Because it is very common to work on a multiple patches.
