#17.5 as in almost #18 but not quite.

See entries for the April Challenge here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5108302&postcount=22) and here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5108300&postcount=23).

Animation Acting Mini-Challenge #17.5

One non-audio topic.

Solving a hard math/science/chemistry/crime/mentally-challenging problem.

Just a reminder and to give you some ideas on the artistic freedom you have with this topic. You are free to set the scene and situation to where and what ever you like. Don't go with your first idea and explore a bit. But don't take too long, this challenge will only last for 2 or so weeks.

Would the character write numbers in the air? Get frustrated from mistyping on the calculator? Furiously write on a chalkboard or quietly ponder? Multi-arm character or a character with no arms?

Rules
Please Read me!
- Have fun animating!
- Use any rig and any animation software you like.
- Animate with any medium (3D, 2D, or stop-motion)
- You're open (and encouraged) to post your progress here if you'd like any comments and critiques.
- No time/frame restriction on the animation. Just remember that the more complex it is the longer it will take to finish. Make it by the due date!
- You can do multiple topics if you have the time. Either separately or as one animation if possible.
- You may add time before and after the audio clip, but please do not change the timing of the audio.
- A separate final submission thread will be created. Post your final animation there. I'll make the thread a few days before the deadline.
- Textures and lighting are optional. Playblasts are acceptable. Just make the acting clear and easy to see.
- Use any resolution and aspect ratio... but keep the file size manageable. As for codecs, preferably one that's common like quicktime or windows media. My recommendation would be Quicktime.
- When posting for final entry please state which topic you are animating.
- Adding music is optional, just don't make it distracting.

We'll do this for about 2 weeks (July 17th - July 31st). We'll vote on audio and non-audio topics on the last week as people complete their animation.

Feel free to ask questions about the challenge. We're still looking to improve how the challenge is conducted, we're open to suggestions.

Tips:
-Don't know where to upload your final animation or WIP? I recommend using www.vimeo.com. Free to register. You get to watch a streaming flash video and if you're registered, users can also download the original video source.
-The audio can also be set to mono instead of stereo, that may help keep the file size down.
-Please consider people from other countries that have certain websites filtered out. If you have webspace it would be nice to upload there to along with any streaming flash websites, at least for your final animation. I don't want anyone to miss out on the work you've done.

This sounds like a blasty I think that I will have to give it a try. I have an idea for this already. I was trying to think about something while I was at work today.

This is what I came up with:
The character walks into a room where an obvious murder has been committed. Due to his previous experience as a "crime scene investigator," his mind and body go through the usual process of surveying the scene. He looks around and takes everything in as he steps into the middle of the room. Finally he takes two deep breaths, he holds the second for a moment and slowly lets it out.

That is were I think I will cut it off.

I will try and block everything out very soon.:buttrock:

Glad to hear about your participation. I would do well to work on something too :)

If you know anyone else who'd like to do something to then please share this challenge with them.

Wanted to post this earlier but internet connection at work hasn't been reliable...

So has anyone gotten an animation to show? I've done some blocking but haven't done any polish unfortunately. I'll still post it up but it's at home.

Sorry I haven't been on top of these things, but my motivation to keep this up has been dwindling for the past year. Soooo..... even with the help that others have volunteered I don't know if I should keep this going. I thought I could but from the way things look right now it's slim.

Maybe someone else can be in charge or we need to rework the system (something simpler?) or both.
