Wicked composition, but if I had to be picky........ the shadow under the bush towards the rear right of your image is directly below the bush, but the car has the correct shadow below it as well as 2 extra shadows on either side.

But only if I had to be picky.

Excellent,

Sonix.

Very nice render!:D ...one question. ... is that an R2 unit aboard?:p

Something Like that It was intended to be some sort of camera infra-red,scope thing, but the R2 connection never came to mind until now, in that case Yeah. Cool. I like this being inspired by the obervations of views. Note to self: "Never define your work until someone else does, then sound like that was what you intended all along".

Thanx for that I never looked at it that way but yeah, R2's new wheels.

And I totally forgot about the Shadow thing. I'll get that fixed but the end of the day. Thanx

I love the concept... and R2 was my first impression too, but then I thought, nah... who'd make R2 on a ship and not mention it? I like that though.

R2D2 or not Great car. Fix the shadows and it could be the real thing

freakin nice render, beautifull comp. One thing though, the background image appears to be a little smeared/fogged in the left hand garden.

Create rough but flat approximations of your scene, i.e floors walls etc. Once modeled project a picture of your set onto your model. (preferable you'd want to model off the photograph) If you have photogrammetry software then that would be even better but its quicker by hand. If you are using a picture that you took make note of the focal length of the lense what you take the picture, in whatever 3D app you are using match that focal length to the one used to take the pic. Then match by hand, but with your cameras settings as set to as close as the real one it shouldn't take long. This was the result of multi-pass rendering to have control of all elements from Flections to shadows and the colours of the cars which were both rendered yellow incidentally.

Hope this helps

Oh and very important Environment Maps if you can shoot your own all the better. Use a chrome ball.

Nice, I love the first image. Could you explain how you photograph a chrome ball in your environment and then use it in a 3d app to achieve realistic lighting ? Do you have to do something special or do you just take a picture of the chrome ball reflecting your environment and then use it as an environment map?

Thanks

Realy nice, I like it...

maybe the car is too futuristic for the environment, but still great renderer..

Thanx John, no I'm still using it but in other stuff, I'll be burning it to tape today on campus (Thurs 29).

About the Environment Map thing, take a photo of a chrome ball, preferably on the ground and using HDRShop or a similarily capable application, unwrap. using its Panoramic Transformations options. i.e. Mirror Ball>Longtitude Latitude. I used that to gernerate my sphere environment map and lights for the scene. Using Lightgen, only 10 directional lights and an Area Light to soften shadows. The Lightgen lights were parented to a null which was spun 720degrees over 1 frame to blur the shadows. I used Lightwave for Rendering but XSI for modeling the R2 thingy, the HumV was modeled in LW. The spinning light trick as its known works well in LW because of LW's blur 'node' Maya doesn'thave one and XSI would usually rely on Final Gathering or LightBox's to achieve the kind of contact shadows that the trick generates.

About the car being too futuristic for the environment I agree and was going to do a bit of a matte painting arount the cars to place it all on a highrise building or something but I can play with that idea in another render.

Otherwise thanx for the crits and comments.

Thanks Mwai, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I use maya, but I'm sure I can get the shadows blurred/softened using mental ray, but that LW blur node does sound pretty cool. Thanks and great job once again!
