We have some simple effects being done using Maya Software renderer using Maya 8.5 64-bit (no service packs) on Windows XP 64-bit. The effect is a simple 3D wood shader, but the issue seem to happen with any type of Maya 3D shader.
When attempting to render in either Windows (64-bit) or even on a Mac (Leopard, also 64-bit) it crashes hard and usually takes Maya down with it. What's really strange is that on any of our 32-bit machines, it renders just fine.
I'm guessing that the shaders are compiled as 32-bit and crashing because they're attempting to be run as native 64-bit? Has anyone else had this issue, and are there solutions?
Will the service packs remedy this? We don't usually like to change our software too much once we're locked into a production, so unless it fixes this issue its not worth it.
