want help in that project of mine guys...
we are planning to make a 2D animation using a 3D environment
where we will make a full 3D environment scenes and cover up the characters with 2D graphics ((not texturing, but full 2D Animation)) and cell-shaded backgrounds...
what do you think is the best rout we choose to finish this within one month
shall we make the full 3D character model using ((Maya, 3D Max)) and then Bone them up and make the animation, that will consume time
or i shall use another method/program that is easier than making all that up and wasting my whole time modeling the characters ?!!! like if there is direct boning method or something for a certain characters, since the 3D design won't show up cuz we are going to cover them with the 2D designs...
it's kinda confusing me XD

thanks for the help in progress ^__^/

So if the 3D characters are going to be covered up... why do anything with them at all?

Don't understand what you want.

If you're not using the character.... don't make it... just have the environments and render them out then composite your 2D onto it.

Are you roto-scoping the 3D characters ala Waking Life?

Hi AIZ,

Suggest you do proper storyboarding and have a good idea of what you want to portray. Usually what we do is we will do a at least one test scene based on a storyboard before determining what we want. In this case where we want a 3D environment and 2D characters, we will plan out, design and model the environment based on the storyboards. We will then do our camera angles. After that, since you said you don't want 3D characters rendered as 2D, you would just composite your 2D characters onto the rendered 3D animated sequences and use them as plates to composite your 2D characters on.

Whatever software you use is immaterial, as long as they perform the tasks they are good. Hope this helps.
